2 weeks old

Cade's 2nd week of life was pretty much identical to his first week! But with a little bit more awake time! His eyes are really starting to clear up, and will occasionally follow objects. He does like to look at light and will turn towards sounds. (especially when either Brian or I talk) We are still having to wake him up to feed him-but today the pediatrician said we could just let him sleep and wake up on his own when he's hungry. We are still loving being his parents and can't wait for all of new things he will learn to do.

One week old

This picture pretty much sums up our first week together. Cade loves to sleep. As do most newborns, but he loves it so much-that we have to wake him up when it's time to eat. He would rather sleep than eat! So far he is a very easy baby. (knock on wood that he doesn't suddenly change) He eats 7 times a day and when he does decide to be awake he is very alert and will stay awake for up to an hour sometimes. He is so fun. And of course the cutest baby I have ever seen! We had our first newborn wellness check on Monday and the doctor said that everything about him is perfect. He was back to his birth weight and has good coloring and reflexes. Cade only cries when he is getting his diaper changed and when it's time to burp-other than that he is very happy and peaceful. Brian and I are loving being his parents and taking care of him.

Cade's arrival started on March 17th, we checked into the University Hospital at 6:30am and went through all the initial paperwork and getting to know you things. My doctor came in at about 8am to check for progress and get me started on the pitocin drip and would turn up the dosage every 30-60 minutes. 4 hours later they checked me again and I was still at 2cm. So they just continued to up the dosage. 4 hours later they checked me again and I was still at 2cm. My doctor then decided to take me off the pitocin and put me on Cytotec. 4 hours later they checked me and I was still at 2cm. They did another dose of the cytotec...4 hours later came into check me and I was still at 2 cm but my effacement level had gone up by 10%. By this point we were getting pretty discouraged. We'd been there for 18ish hours and had made zero progress. At that point they put me back on the pitocin drip, and kept turning up the dosage again. Around midnight I started feeling stronger and more regular contractions. It wasn't quite bad enough for an epidural yet so they gave me a couple doses of a lower dose of pain medication that worked well until I was ready for the epidural. Then at 4:30am a doctor came in to check on me and see if I had started to dilate anymore, I of course hadn't but was 70% effaced, so she decided to manually force me to dilate to 3cm so she could break my water. Which she did, and boy or boy that did not feel very good. I didn't see the tool they used to break my water but Brian said it looked like a spear. Probably a good thing I didn't see it. So immediately after that I was ready for the epidural. They paged the anesthesiologist to come in and relieve me of my pain. Once those drugs kicked in it was great. I couldn't feel a thing. At this point we'd been at the hospital for 24 hours and I was exhausted so I quickly fell asleep. My doctor came into checked me just before she had to leave to go do clinic in Centerville and I was at 5cm! I was so happy for some sort of real progress. She left and I went back to sleep. 3 hours later another doctor came in to see how I was doing and boy was I shocked when she told me I was at 9cm and that next time they came in it would probably be time to start pushing. They paged my doctor to let her know I was getting close and at 11:30 am I was ready to start pushing and my doctor was on the way back from Centerville. My epidural had started to wear off a bit so I had them come in and do another redosing of the medication, they didn't do a full dose just enough to get me through the last bit until it was time to push. Once my doctor got there and we started pushing my epiduarl had pretty much worn off and the pain was very intense and hard. I was feeling the contractions and a ton of very painful pressure from him being down on my pelvis. But either way it was time to push push push push! After around 45 minutes of pushing and a little help from a vacuum little Cade was born! The relief, both physically and mentally, that he was finally here was so great that I don't even really know how to describe how I felt at that moment.

They had to take him right over to the warmer to check him out because there was a little bit of meconium in my fluid when they broke my water, but after a quick draining of his airway he was totally fine, cleaned up, wrapped up and handed to Brian and suddenly we were a little family of 3! All in all it took about 31 hours to get him here, but it was all over in a second and totally worth it! He is very loved by his parents, grandparents, and all his aunts and uncles. Once you meet him you fall instantly in love with him!

I love my doctor!

I am getting induced tomorrow morning at 6:30am! At my appointment today I found out that I am 2cm dilated, but my doctor was pretty sure I'd go over my due date. But she is going to be out of town all next week, and wants to deliver our baby (she must really like us) so she decided to induce us tomorrow morning so she would for sure be here! I was so happy when she said that...I think I might bake her a cake! We will hopefully have him tomorrow, which means he'll be a St. Patricks day baby. Oh and Brian and I also met 3 years ago tomorrow at a party, so that makes it even more fun! Wish us luck, we're about to become parents!

Ticking time bomb

Today I am 10 days away from the due date. I had an appointment today and my doctor said that so far there isn't any progression towards labor. But she did add that everything can change over night...but I'm not getting my hopes up. I keep telling myself that I am going to go over my due date, so that if it actually happens I won't be upset about it. I remember when we first found out that we were going to have a baby we'd say he was coming next year. March seemed so far away. Then when we moved to Sandy it was 3 months way, which quickly became 3 weeks, and now I can say my due date is next week. It's crazy how quickly time goes. I am crossing my fingers that at my next appointment some progress has been made and that we'll be closer to finally meeting him and seeing what he looks like. It's time for one more Ute fan to be born!

4 legged visitors

Cute right? Not if they have invaded your home! If you remember from an early post I mentioned that I found a dead mouse under our couch, well lucky for us he left behind some friends who are alive and well. When we first moved in I noticed a little scurrying sound in the walls and the occasional squeaking-but when I found the dead mouse I dismissed it thinking the problem had been solved. Then about a week ago I noticed a mouse running across our family room and dodge into the storage room before we could catch him. I didn't think too much of it...until a few nights after that I saw another fatter mouse doing the same thing. On Sunday I went into our storage room and it reaked! So I had Brian take out all of the stuff that was in there so we could see what was going on...what we found is discusting. Lots and lots of mouse poop along the baseboards of the wall. Gross. I'm assuming we have a little mouse family living in our walls and storage room. Brian has set out a good amount of mouse traps (one mouse has already fallen to it's death) and hopefully we can solve this problem soon, unless they start paying me rent I do not want these little mice running around my house!
